Luke is a British-Australian artist based in Sydney/Eora
"My work explores domesticity in a queer household - the quiet, everyday moments that define intimacy and home. Using a palette of bright colours that blur the lines between the traditionally masculine and the feminine, I challenge rigid definitions and celebrate a space that is both and neither. Through colour, texture, and form, I aim to capture the innate beauty of ordinary life and the complex nature of identity."

What themes do you explore in your work?

My practice explores queer domestic life, intimacy, and the quiet moments that make up everyday living. Rather than making big statements about identity, I focus on how it shows up naturally in shared spaces, small gestures, and the rhythms of daily life.

What materials do you work with?

I am drawn to the relationship between drawing and painting. Drawing with pens or oil pastels allow for immediacy and mark-making, while oil paint allows things to slow down and deepen - becoming meditative.

How does colour function in your practice?

Colour is more about feeling than symbolism for me. I’m drawn to bright, sometimes unexpected palettes that mix traditionally masculine and feminine tones. I want to evoke feeling in the viewer - joy, calmness, curiosity.

What role does domestic space play in your art?

By focusing on the everyday, I want to honour forms of queer intimacy that exist without needing to be performed or explained.

What do you hope viewers experience when engaging with your work?

I hope people feel a sense of familiarity or gentle curiosity - like they’ve stepped into a moment they recognise. The work isn’t meant to explain anything, but to create a mood that invites people to slow down and sit with it for a while.
